A chance for all Forest & Birders, family and friends to join together for a picnic, swim and nature wander at Tawharanui Open Sanctuary; only an hour’s drive from Auckland – but a world away. There is a good chance of seeing Takahē, Whitehead (Pōpokotea), Saddleback, Bellbird and Pōteke at Tawharanui.
Meet in the main car park close to the big red barn at
10:30 a.m. Look for the Forest & Bird flag.
Bring lunch, drinks, swimming gear, walking shoes, hat and sunscreen.

Directions to Tawharanui Open Sanctuary. Take State Highway 1 north to Warkworth. Follow the signs to Matakana. Just past Matakana turn right at the Omaha turn off, drive along Takatu Road and the park is well sign posted. (Note: The last 6km of the route is a winding gravel road).
